Whenever you watch a good science fiction movie there are often huge explosions and weird noises when phasor torpedoes are fired or when a ship blasts its motors.
WRONG!!!!
SOUND CANNOT TRAVEL THROUGH A VACUUM. Sound is a series of vibrations which are passed from the object making them from molecule to molecule and eventually to your eardrum (or a microphone). This is called a longitudinal wave and with a musical note the molecules all vibrate backwards and forwards at the same rate as the vibrating object.
NO MOLECULES….NO WAY OF PASSING THE ENERGY ON..so you would not hear any sound whatsoever in space!
Good job really considering that the Sun is a massive Hydrogen bomb whose diameter is about 100 times the diameter of the Earth…it would be extremely noisy!
