PUT THE SAUCEPAN ONTO A HIGH HEAT

Many television cooks say expressions like this and we accept them though of course they would technically be wrong from a physics point of view. We all know what "put the saucepan on high heat" means..it means turn the cooker up full. But HEAT is a form of energy and the cooker is giving energy to the pan all the time. So what really is happening is that the cooker is being turned up to a higher POWER. Because Power (measured in Watts) is the energy per second. On a "high" setting there is more energy per second being given to the pan.

ever thought of any other BAD expressions in the kitchen?:
the kettle is boiling..... REALLY??? or is it just the water in the kettle that's boiling....after all for the steel of the kettle to boil it would have to be rediculously hot!!!
