Well the first three are ok though telecommunications people prefer now to call:
LW Long Wave : LF or Low Frequency
MW Meduim Wave: MF Medium Frequency
SW Short Wave: HF High Frequency
But the fourth channel (which most people listen to) is NOT called the FM band but the VHF band (Very High Frequency).
These are radio waves (not sound waves) coming to our radio sets, but somehow there is SOUND information superimposed onto the radio signal. The
method of doing this is called MODULATION. There are 2 main types of modulation: Amplitude Modulation AM, and Frequency Modulation FM. FM gives the best sound reproduction and many radio stations call themselves "radio X FM" etc.
So the 4th band is called the VHF band and the method of modulation is FM. (the other 3 bands use AM)
