MAGNETS ARE CHARGED UP
WRONG!!

The confusion is due to the fact that charged objects attract or repel each other and so do magnetised objects.
Do not confuse the two - they are not directly related. Steel and nickel can be turned into magnets and so can iron (though it does not keep its magnetism)
Materials behave as though they have billions of mini-magnets inside them...by rubbing a piece of steel gently lots of times on a magnet you can get lots of these mini-magnets to line up in the same direction, making the piece of steel magnetised.
Objects can be charged (if they are electrically insulated)...you can charge a comb by rubbing it on your sweater and see it attract small pieces of paper. When you charge an object you either add electrons to it (negative charge) or remove electrons from it (positive charge)
